February 2010 Update
A lot has been happening in our workshop as Andy and Sam have been busy
rebuilding Sams Ministox.
John Frost and myself have been repairing the F1 to be used by John in 2010 and
last saturday we picked up the car that is going to be used by Robert and Myself
this season
This car is the one built for 1999 season by Andy and raced by him until 2002
until being sold to 243 Carl Gibson in 2003. It has now come back home to grace
the tracks once again under the 137 number, and the yellow and blue colour
scheme sponsored by Corona Extra
The ex 137 Andy Jacklin, and ex 243 Carl Gibson car, is now

World of Shale Race: This was my first meeting and first time I had driven
the car since the accident at World final night at Kings Lynn. I Gridded 9th for
the World of Shale final. I made a good start until being taken out by an over
enthusiastic Joe Booth who seemed to think he could go over me rather than round
me. No damage and the car was returned to the pits for 351 John Frost to take
the Helm.
Mini Stox Heat 1, Rob got off to a great start with Sam in hot pursuit of Big
Brother. The track was very heavy but Rob mastered it well to bring home the 1st
trophy of the day to the Jacklin Camp Sam finished 8th.
Heat 2, Again Rob hit the front early in the race only to have to retire with
engine misfire and Sam recorded 7th.
Mini Final (Northwest Championship) Robs car was now fixed and with only 1 white
top, Rob hit the front very soon into the race, Sam was in 3rd for much of the
race until Aldridge and Griffin caught up, Sam fought back but the experience of
the older drivers paid off with Sam finishing a very good 6th, and Rob a
fantastic 1st
A superb days racing and Robs Last meeting in his Mini (What a Way to Finish) A
Big thank you to all who have helped this year and making it possible for us .
Next year isnt that far away and Robert is looking out for Sponsors big or small
to pursue his racing career.
Saturday 19th September Kings Lynn
Saturday started off with a bacon and egg breakfast and then it was into
prepare for the big race for us which was the consolation semi final. Tyres were
changed (all the good ones put on) and various checks and alterations made.
The race itself a promising start with 337, 35 and myself breaking away in the
early stages until the yellow flags on the restart again we broke away and I
managed to get to second until the yellows again on the restart I was unable to
hold off the likes of 53 and 380 and in the latter stages dropped down to 5th
place where I finished
Surgery was required to repair the nerf rail and the car was ready for the
final. This ended in a trip to the wall with a very hard shunt causing yellow
flags and assistance from the car, later resulting in a trip to hospital with
the effects of concussion.
Mini Gold top race
Both Robert and Sam had a good race never really being in a position to
challenge the leaders due to grid position however the came home a very
respectable 7th and 8th
Later on in the meeting Robs engine went sick and Sam popped a drive shaft, and
in the last race Sam was leading until the last bend of the last lap when he
lost out to #91 coming home second.
A big thankyou to all that helped out making this weekend possible.
Friday 18th September Kings Lynn
An early start in order to get everything sorted and we finally left
Manchester at 1.30 pm
We arrived at Kings Lynn and set about unloading
The car didnt handle particularly well on the friday night with a lot of push in
the corners and then whilst I was recovering from a spin 380 Steve Cayzer landed
on my Bonnet upside down!
Repairs were carried out to enable us to compete in the consolation race but I
retired with a problem with the power steering.
Belle Vue 31st August F1
After a week of hard work repairing the car from its roll in the Birmingham
semi final we arrived at Belle Vue, the car was in good shape and the Driver
too.
First race was the Whites and yellows which ended in the clutch failing whilst
trying to get untangled from another car, A new clutch was sourced and a few
bits borrowed and we made it back out on track for Heat 3 where a 7th place was
recorded.
The Final, after a few mishaps it was a DNF after a challenge on 212 resulted in
both cars tangled.
Grand National, Was leading for a while then caught by 391 and then driver error
allowed others to pass but in the end I got a good 6th place as well as the
grade award on the night.
Thanks to everyone for there help in replacing the clutch and getting the car
back on track.
Birmingham Semi Final 21st August
Where do I start!! A lot of hard work was required to change the car from
Shale to Tarmac spec, ie different brakes, front axle, springs etc and with a
bit of practice on saturday we sort of knew what the car would be like in the
race. Tweaks were made here and there and we were satisfied that we could give
it our best shot.
With the fun of the parade lap over it was time for the serious stuff. Strapped
in the grid was formed and the rolling lap began the race started only to be Red
flagged due to a roll over.
On the restart I was well positioned and at the green flag started to make my
assault from the back passing a couple of cars, Coming into pit bend I saw an
opportunity to gain more places and thats when it went wrong as I climbed over
the front of the 35 car which launched me into the air and landing on my roof
sliding down the track.
The car was severely damaged and that was the end of the Semi Final for us.
A big thank you to everyone who assisted in getting us there

F1
Heat 1 A good race despite snapping a half shaft and limping to the finish to
record a 9th place.
Heat 2 A good race despite having a spin in the corner once I got on the loose
stuff 7th place finish.
Final, A hard fought race with a good wheel to wheel battle with Andy Ford
despite just not being close enough to mount an attack for the position without
taking us both out. Speaking to Andy after the race he said "I was waiting for
the big one for about 4 laps but it never came"
Grand National, A good race for me but couldnt seem to get any grip and
therefore the likes of Wainman and Paul Hines were able to pull away. In the
mirror I could see Andy Ford but he was unable to get close enough so I got a
4th place finish.
Ministox
Having received a phone call during the week that some Cylinder Heads that
various teams had purchased may not be legal, we volunteered to have ours
checked.
Once the heads had been removed it became apparent that the heads on both cars
had Cylinder heads that contavined the rules.
New cylinder heads were fitted and the cars were allowed to race.
Heat 1 Sam and Rob both battled it out together to come home a respectable 5th &
6th
Heat 2 Sam had a brief encounter with the fence and had to retire with a
puncture, Rob finished 5th
Final, Both battled with each other in a hard fought race to come home 3rd for
Sam and 4th for Rob (the only team orders were not to take each other out)

Jacklin Racing goes Green
Not
green in colour but green as in helping the environment, to a certain extent!! -
offsetting?? ...
We have been having water supply problems for a long time.
So we obtained two large tanks to store water and these are fed by natural rain
water [lots of it all year round in Reddish, Mcr!] from the garage roof
drain pipe, this water will be used to wash the cars and even provide water for
the kettle, as well as hand washing and for filling small drums to take to those
tracks where water access is tricky.
Belle Vue 25th May F1
It was a very hectic meeting on track
Heat 1 resulted in a 8th place finish despite getting a puncture on the outside
rear on the last lap.
The
final was even more hectic with most of the race being run with a bent stub axle
on the front which meant very little brakes which makes it challenging round a
tight track like Belle Vue
we did not take part in the National due to being unable to ready the car in
time
We got 10 WCQ points in the bag
16th May Kings Lynn Ministox
Heat 1 saw both Rob & Sam out together the start was not good and Sam ended
up being spun on the home straight, he got going again and finished 9th. Rob
meanwhile had cut through the pack only to be spun out and later lose drive due
to a drive shaft problem
Heat 2 Rob drove a good race to come home 5th with no damage.
Heat 3 and Sam had a real good battle with Jacob Downey to come home 4th
Final was another good race from both Rob bringing his car home 5th and Sam 8th
A good bag full of points for the gold roof race in September

Heat 1 With the modifications made from Sheffield earlier in the day the car was very quick and another steady drive car was brought home in 5th place. Final The Traditional Belle Vue Rain cloud appeared and the track went into a pool of slurry, Another steady drive keeping it pointed in the right direction resulted in a 4th place earning vital points and the Grade award. See our video clip on the right on Heat 1, this clip just follows our car in this race. PHOTOS page updated too [Plus more on 7th May] |

punctured his inside front tyre and bent the steering arm resulting in a 10th
place finish.
Heat 2 saw Sam move to the front very quickly but then dropped down the placings
due to the car having to much push into the corners.
Heat 3 Sam went into the lead early on with Rob and 22 Bradley Harrison in hot
pursuit with just a few laps to go an engine blew up for 777 and filled the
track with smoke in all the melee of crashes the race was chequered and Red
result Sam 1st!! a win is a win!!
The Final and Sam was up front early on with 304 and Rob in hot pursuit, 304 and
Rob got passed and the Result was 304, 136,137, Sam scored a massive 28 points

F1 Engine and grading news
The F1 engine has now been repaired and rebuilt and was fitted last night
[23rd April]
The efforts with the spare engine we had fitted at Belle Vue have been rewarded
with a Blue roof for the month of May
We will be at Kings Lynn on Saturday.
Rob has maintained Blue for May while Sam has slipped back to Yellow
Belle Vue 15th April F1
Having burnt the midnight oil all week to get the spare engine built we
arrived at Belle Vue
Heat 2 Steve brought the car home in 4th place despite having broke a half shaft
with 3 laps to run
In the Final the rear inside tyre punctured and then came off the rim resulting
in a 12th place
Grand National
A very hard fought race resulting in a 9th place.
Kings Lynn 11th April Ministox
Despite praying for rain again it didnt happen and race 1 was a dry one
where Rob finished 6th and Sam got a puncture, Race 2 saw the track being
watered which made it very slippery but the wet shale master came into his own
and finished 2nd.
Final Rob finished 6th, Sam DNF due to a spin.
Skegness 10th April Ministox
Another wet race meeting and in the first race Rob & Sam finished 8th & 9th
In the Final both Rob and sam were running strong until Rob was spun out exiting
turn 3 and then T-Boned by several cars. he was ok after several minutes with
the medics in the car. Sam was taken out on the last lap.
Kings Lynn 28th March Ministox
Sam and Robert were in heat 1 and the weather was appalling. They both
started from Blue and Sam had made his way through to the front by lap 2 closely
followed by Big Brother Rob. Sam continued to lead all the way to the checkered
(His 1st Race win) followed by Rob. Both were in a class of there own as they
lapped every car on the track up to 3rd place.
Heat 2 was a drier race and Rob finished 6th
Heat 3 Sam was running well until getting caught up in the tyres after avoiding
spinning cars
Final Rob finished 8th and Sam ended up beached on all of the shale on the
outside of the track.
Buxton Raceway 8th March
Rob got injured at this meeting while racing his mini, Rob
is OK now he was still not himself on Monday but is getting better. It was a
very hard knock especially going in backwards.

F1 Engine News
Unfortunately it is bad news that I have to report as we have stripped the
engine as a precaution and found some serious damage to the cylinder block and
crank, its likely that this will be in the region of £2000 to repair and could
take up to 6 weeks.
When it was stripped down it was found that #2 main bearing cap was broken in 2
pieces and #8 big end journal was marked, the Bores have wear in them and the
cam followers need replacing.
Rebuild of the F1 and Minis
Just a few pics [see photos page], but we have started
the rebuild ready for this season, more pics soon.
Some extra pics added from the garage 11-2-09

Formula 1 has had 2 new nerf rails and a new front bumper, This will also have a
repaint for 2009
Rob has now started to enjoy the art of Welding and has carried out the welding
